I Have a Hunch
by Charli Lamont Williams, Personal Success Coach

For more than a decade I have been working with successful business professionals in the financial services industry. In all that time, absolutely every one of my clients has told me about their hunches, intuition, guardian angels, or their "gut" reactions.

For each person, there has been an influence outside of their own thinking, their own intellect. an influence they came to rely on.

When I first began my coaching work, I, too, felt there was (and is) a power in the universe greater than I am. However, I did not call it God, and I certainly wasn't having anything to do with so-called angels, of course I did not tell my clients this. After all, they had their beliefs and I had mine. I simply observed, supported their beliefs and went on with teaching my program.

A few years ago, though, I gained a new awareness of the statement above: Every client had some type of spiritual influence in their life, whatever they called it. This got my attention. So right from the beginning of our relationship, I began proactively speaking to new clients about their religious or spiritual beliefs. This has brought about a very interesting and important change to the direction of my coaching work.

I now see that we, as a human race, are moving into a more spiritual time. People are hungrily seeking information. Churches and synagogues are filling with intelligent, inquisitive people, those who are seeking that "something greater."

The bookshelves are now filled with books on how to develop your own intuition, on life after life, and so on. It is time you looked beyond the physical plane for assistance in living more comfortably and helping others. The directions in this article will give you a good start. This information will also enhance your direction, if you are already on this path.

HOW IT WORKS. It works in any and every way which supports you, your happiness and your success.

Information is omnipresent. The method of delivery is personal.

The interesting dichotomy is that when you have faith, you get all the proof you need to sustain your faith. Life becomes easier and more fun. When you don't have faith - when your mind is closed to the possibility - no amount of "proof" is sufficient to give you faith.

Richard is just such a cynic. He refuses to even consider the possibility of an intelligent power in the universe. The sad thing is that, as powerful and successful as he is in his business and family life, he could be and have so much more. By refusing to consider the greater possibility - not the reality, just the possibility - he is closing himself off to greater peace, joy and success.

Kevin, on the other hand, never hesitates to look at new possibilities. From the beginning of our work together, he has been eager to experiment. I make a suggestion and says, "I'll try that. Wait, I'm making some notes." And off he goes to practice developing his intuition in a variety of new ways. Of course he is wildly successful!

One seemingly small event in Kevin's experience illustrates this: He is an attorney. His law library contains several hundred volumes, and each volume contains fifty or sixty cases. He needed to look up a particular case for reference and was not looking forward to the search.

Later that day, he went into his library on another errand, and removed a few volumes to get to an electrical outlet. When he moved to replace the volumes, he noticed the one on top of the stack was the book he needed.

This is an example of everyday magic. Small events making life easier and more fun.

Many people, myself included, get information through books. For example, Tanya is a great reader. She reads every day. She has an affinity with books. One day, much to her surprise, she opened a book at random and her eyes fell on a particular passage. As she read it, she realized this was the answer to a question she had asked earlier. She now uses this method for getting direction and insight. She trusts it completely because it works for her; and it works for her because she has come to trust it completely.

WHAT TO DO: Risk. Take a chance. Practice.

If the doctor gives you a crutch and promises it will support your weight, the only way to know if it is so is to lean on it. It will hold you up, or it won't. Either way, you have some valuable information you did not have before.

Listen to your hunches. Make notes about them so you will remember. Then be aware. Did you follow your hunch, or not? What happened? Did you realize too late that you "knew" to turn left back there and didn't?
Now you are stuck in a traffic jam!

LAUGH. When you realize you "could have known" and didn't, just laugh. You are learning to listen.

Spirit has a great sense of humor, and that humor is always gentle, never rude.

DANGER: Don't try to use someone else's technique for receiving information if doing so is a struggle for you.

For example: When I was first trying to learn visualization - decades ago! - I mistakenly thought I needed someone else to teach me. I "tried to see" a candle and the flame in my mind's eye, as I was instructed to do. I struggled with that technique for a long time, finally giving up and deciding I couldn't visualize.

Fortunately, I eventually learned to trust myself. From there I came to know the term "visualization" is somewhat of a misnomer. To visualize, all one has to do is see, sense, feel or imagine the thing. That is visualization! Use as many of the physical senses as possible and the visualization becomes even more powerful.

To "try" is to get hung up on the technique. I want you to focus on the desired outcome, which is to receive useful information. With practice, you will learn to trust that the information you seek is available, and it will show up.

Last weekend I asked a question, to which the answer was yes or no. Going to a restaurant for lunch I passed some boxes being prepared for disposal. The name "Gomez" was hand written on the sides. When I returned to my computer after lunch, the screen had changed from the program I left on to another program! The program now open and on the screen was my address book, and the name highlighted was "Gomez."
That so-called coincidence was the answer to my question. The answer was yes.

PRACTICING: Ask a clear, concise question. For example: What is the next step I should take to fulfill my goal? Rather than: I want to reach my goal but I don't know what to do next. Do not ask "Why" questions. "Why" is a squirrel cage. It gets you nowhere.

ACKNOWLEDGING SUCCESS: Be aware. Sometimes we think we haven't gotten an answer when we really have: It just doesn't look like what we expected. For example: George asked for more money. What he really wanted was to increase his business production. What he got was a quarter he found in the parking lot. He had to laugh because he got what he asked for. What he hadn't done was ask for what he wanted, specifically.

I have attempted to give you different methods of receiving information so that you will begin to become comfortable with your own methods. You don't need to receive information via any method but your own. You don't have to do it like anyone else does. You do not need anyone's agreement or approval regarding your experiences.

Trust yourself to know your own personal technique, and have fun with the process.
