If you are anywhere
near my age you may remember the 1963 hit song by
The Chiffons, one of the first all
black female foursome groups, entitled, He’s
So Fine. Fine – “of superior
quality, skill, or appearance … trained to the
highest degree of physical efficiency … characterized
by refinement, grace or elegance” –
fine. As we seek to build a better you in order to
better market you and your business, it would be good
to hear others say, “He/She’s so fine!”
We all must seek to build into our lives, persona,
and performance the quality of personal attraction.
In the best sense of the word, we must be attractive
to others.
Unfortunately today
most people and organizations seek to spin an image
rather than to be truly fine. In our celebrity culture
we are too attracted to the outrageous, the superficial,
and the skin-deep attractiveness. However I would
like to challenge you to be so fine in these truly
authentic and attractive ways.
Treat every
person you meet as if they were the most important
person in the world. That’s right,
make no distinction between the person cleaning
your hotel room, the CEO, and the President of the
United States. Treat all as important people because
they are.
Be fully present to the other person. This
is a corollary of the first principle. When you
are with another, don’t look around, fiddle
around, or think of what you will say or do next.
Be right there with them in the present.
Always say “Please,” “Thank
You,” “With Your Permission,”
“May I.” Remember the old adage
about what you learned in Kindergarten? Practice
it.
Personal appearance counts a lot! –
One long term veteran said to me, “I never
lost a sale because I wore a coat and tie.”
We are not all blest with celebrity good looks;
but good quality well-kept clothes, attractive make-up,
shined shoes, well groomed hair, and a smile is
a part of being “so fine.”
Purpose, Direction, Intentionality, Intensity
and Energy make a difference. The world
steps aside for the man or woman who knows who they
are, where they are going, and what they want. Then
they are attracted and follow those people. Be that
kind of a leader.
Be real good at something. Everyone
has the ability to be one of the best in the world
at something. Seek wisdom, find your unique ability,
and be one of the very best at doing what you love.
People like that are so fine.
The first three are
about how you treat others and the next three of these
personal attraction principles are about you. Practice
them every day and who knows someone just might sing
and say, “He/She’s So Fine!”
