Aboard The Long Term Care Express! "
by Ed Auble, CLU, ChFC, MSFS,
FLMI, LUTCF, CASL
It is 2008 and you are waiting at the United
States Railway Station. Newspapers in nearby vending
machines announce " Thirty-five million Americans
have already turned age 65, a number which will double
by 2030."; "Those in the 85-plus category
represent the fastest growing segment of our population";
"6000 Americans turn age 65 every day"; "Pennsylvania
has the second oldest population in the country".
Can't you hear that distant whistle?
Poor retention is not a problem
by Michael Beck
No one likes their retention to be poor, but the truth
is: Poor retention is a symptom, not a problem. It's tempting
to point the finger at large rate increases as the culprit,
but that's not usually the case. If new agents are writing
new business, you can be pretty certain that rates aren't
the driving force behind retention challenges for an established
agent or advisor.
How
to avoid misfortune
by Al Jacobs
On the Money Trail
Over the past several decades, I've watched
as the personal lives of a number of friends and acquaintances
self-destructed. At first, each misfortune seemed
unique, but looking back, I find common threads among
these financial calamities. There are typically three
factors that invariably lead to misery. Read on to
learn how to avoid them.
EASING
E-MAIL
by Dr. Donald E. Wetmore
It's interesting. Technology is often heralded as a
servant for us yet frequently we become a servant to
it. E-mail was trumpeted as the new communications tool
that would surely put first class "snail mail"
out of business. Last year, the U. S. Post Office delivered
more pieces of first class mail than ever and e-mails
exceeded the volume of first class mailings. We have
created another layer of communicating with one another
and an additional responsibility to monitor and manage.

Proposed
Bill Would Make the
Do Not Call Registrations Permanent
Edwin P. Morrow, CLU, ChFC, CEP,
CFP®, RFC®
More than 50 million phone numbers will be purged from
the national Do Not Call registry next year, and although
the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says it will be easy
for people to re-register, Congress is considering a
legislative fix that would make the list permanent.
Seven
Financial Gifting Tips for
Year-End Consortium
of Financial Advisors Comes Together to Provide
Gifting Strategies that Can Also Have Big Tax Benefits
by Keith Cox, CFP®
As we prepare to say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008,
there are often two things on people’s mind: holiday
gifts and tax planning. The two goals can often be achieved
simultaneously. The end of the year is filled with stress
as people struggle to meet the social and philanthropic
demands of the season, search for the perfect holiday
gifts, and worry about the fiscal ramifications of the
past year. But by giving loved ones financial gifts, the
stresses of gift giving and financial planning can be
lessened.
The
NichePreneur Coach
by Susan Friedmann
Experts have become omnipresent. They're everywhere:
on your favorite television show, on drive time radio
programming, on blogs and internet discussion forums,
between the pages of nationally popular magazines and
your local newspaper. You can't throw a dart, it seems,
without having it hit an Expert on the way to the dartboard.
